About the Laughing Nymph

When I first created this blog I was a 16-year-old homeschooler pursuing too many interests to even conceive of a clear career path, my aspirations for higher education almost exclusively involved theater and studio art classes (preferably taught at some Hogwarts look-alike), and I merely intended to fill my blog posts with ramblings on every topic from 16th-century polyphonic motets to the latest self-published urban fantasy author.

Now, as a fresh-off-the-press alumna of Mount Holyoke College (indeed a Hogwarts look-alike!) holding a B.A. in History with a certificate minor in Museum Studies, I am spending a year or two pursuing internships and fellowships at museums around New England before settling into a Master’s Degree program in Museum Studies or Public History, after which I hope to earn a graduate degree in textile conservation.

During this hiatus from school/trial period in the adult world I am devoting some much-anticipated time to practicing historical costuming, beginning with my first corset and progressing, if all goes well, to my first forays into millinery. These projects, primarily based on fashions from the early 19th through early 20th century, will no doubt be punctuated by the occasional cosplay or Halloween costume inspired by the nerdy worlds brought to us by the Whedon brothers, Hayao Miyazaki, Riot games, Jagex, and so many more.
